Vauxhall Bridge

DECKSAFE SOLUTIONS PROVIDES CAST IRON SAFETY FOR VAUXHALL BRIDGE

The future of Great Yarmouth’s Vauxhall Bridge looks bright thanks to the installation of DeckSafe Solution’s GRP safety flooring during its recent comprehensive restoration.

Opened in 1852, the Grade 2-listed cast iron bridge was then modified in 1886 to take railway locomotives, at which time the present footbridge was also added. This modification means that, today, Vauxhall Bridge is the only surviving major bridge in the country to have been strengthened in the 19th century by complete alteration of its structural form.

However, since its closure to vehicle traffic in 1953, the bridge had slowly fallen into disrepair, prompting a successful application in March 2011 for funding to undertake the restoration. On site work began in November 2012 and DeckSafe Solutions was commissioned to provide GRP safety flooring for the pedestrian access areas of the bridge.

Manufactured to meet BS EN124 specifications - providing superior grip in wet, oily and icy conditions – DeckSafe’s GRP panels are ideal for applications such as this. The high strength properties and lightweight construction of the 50mm cored GRP panels, which were used throughout the restoration, provide a fantastic load strength of 16.7 tonnes per square metre. This unique combination of features and benefits within an advanced composite material means that GRP flooring is fast becoming the first choice for a multitude of demanding applications and environments.
